Description of Project: The study was conducted in four districts of Luapula province of Zambia and aimed at investigating the relationship between social protection programs and HIV services access especially for the disabled. The study sample was drawn from households receiving Social Cash Transfers from the Government that live in Community Welfare Assistance Committee (CWACs) villages. A total sample of 2,129 or 25 per CWAC in 90 CWACs was randomly selected using Probably Proportional to Size (PPS) sampling.

Description of actual services provided by your staff within the assignment: Trained enumerators administered a household questionnaire to the household head and all household members aged 16 years or older in the Bemba language after obtaining informed consent from every respondent. The respondents were surveyed on socio-demographic characteristics, maternal and HIV service use, experiences of sexual intimate partner violence, disability status, and receipt of social cash transfers.
Palm’s responsibilities included: i) preparing lists of households in Excel and Stata and conducting two-stage randomized cluster sampling of communities and households, ii) recruiting, training, and managing enumerators, iii) reporting on survey progress and data quality, and iv) producing final report including descriptive statistics.
